Best Mexican Restaurants in Nashville (2026 Updated Guide)

Nashville, TNSeptember 21, 2026๐Ÿ”„ Last updated: October 2026

Nashville might be known for hot chicken, but the city has a Mexican food scene worth exploring too.

From street tacos and birria to massive burritos, traditional dishes and more modern Mexican restaurants, there are plenty of options around Nashville.

I'm eating my way through the city to figure out which restaurants are actually worth your money. When I personally review a restaurant, I pay for my own meal and give it an independent Sam Score out of 10.

This guide will continue to grow as I try more Mexican restaurants across Nashville.

No paid rankings. No bought Sam Scores. Just my experience.

Tip: hover over any $ price tag below to see what it means.

โญ Chilangos Tacos

Neighborhood: Downtown (Assembly Food Hall)

Sam Score: 8.7/10

Best For: Tacos near Broadway

Price: $$

Chilangos is a taco counter on Level 2 North of Assembly Food Hall at Fifth + Broadway, the Nashville outpost of a Dallas-based taco brand. The menu is tacos, quesadillas and nachos with classic and specialty fillings.

I got a chicken, a steak and a pastor taco, plus chips and queso. Service was quick and there's plenty of seating, though the food hall gets crowded and parking downtown is paid. Read Sam's full review โ†’

โญ The Chile Burrito Co.

Neighborhood: Downtown, just off Broadway

Sam Score: 8.7/10

Best For: Build-your-own burritos

Price: $$

The Chile Burrito Co. is a counter-service Mexican spot a block off Broadway, with build-your-own burritos, tacos and a salsa bar in a colorful dining room.

I got a 12-inch steak burrito with rice, cheese, queso, pico, cilantro, onions, lettuce and medium sauce, plus chips. It's quick and close to Broadway. The trade-offs are limited seating, paid parking only, and hours worth checking before you go. Read Sam's full review โ†’

โญ Talkin' Tacos

Neighborhood: Downtown (2nd Ave N)

Sam Score: 7.9/10

Best For: Birria and late-night tacos

Price: $$

Talkin' Tacos is the first Tennessee location of a halal Mexican chain out of Miami, open on 2nd Avenue North since late September 2026. You order at a kiosk and eat under neon signs and a splatter-painted wall, or outside on the patio.

I got the App Trio and two Taco Trios, running through carne asada, Southwest chicken, bang bang shrimp, birria, birria taki and mahi mahi, plus a Mangodana. It's quick, it's got a patio, and the kitchen runs late. Read Sam's full review โ†’

โญ Ladybird Taco

Neighborhood: 12 South

Sam Score: 7.6/10

Best For: Breakfast tacos

Price: $$

Ladybird is a Texas-style breakfast taco counter in 12 South that calls itself "a little TX in TN," so it leans Tex-Mex rather than traditional Mexican. Expect a numbered menu of breakfast tacos, coffee and lunch options at communal tables.

I got breakfast tacos #1, #4 and #6. It's quick and parking nearby is free, but it gets packed and you may wait for a table. Read Sam's full review โ†’

More Nashville Mexican Restaurants Worth Knowing

These haven't been Sam Scored yet. Rather than ranking places I haven't personally reviewed, I'm keeping them on my radar and will add them to the rankings once I've eaten there.

๐ŸŒฏ Baja Burrito

An independent burrito shop in Berry Hill that's been open since 2000, well before most of Nashville's current Mexican spots. It's the classic casual burrito-and-tacos stop in that part of town.

Best For: Burritos, casual lunch

๐Ÿ”ฅ Mas Tacos Por Favor

A long-running East Nashville taco spot and one of the best-known casual Mexican names in the city, serving tacos alongside soups and sides.

Best For: Nashville taco institution, affordable

๐Ÿง€ El Jaliciense

A family-run restaurant on Gallatin Pike in East Nashville since 2006, cooking home-style food from Jalisco. It's the one to look at for a traditional sit-down Mexican meal, and birria is one of the dishes it's known for.

Best For: Traditional Mexican, birria

๐ŸŒฎ Taqueria San Luis

A no-frills taqueria for street tacos. Order a few different meats rather than a plate of one, so you can find your favorite.

Best For: Street tacos, value

๐ŸŒฝ Maiz de la Vida

Built around fresh masa and handmade tortillas, which makes the tortilla the point of the meal rather than an afterthought.

Best For: Handmade tortillas

๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฝ Superica

Tex-Mex rather than traditional Mexican, with tacos, fajitas, queso and margaritas in a polished sit-down room. I've already reviewed the Atlanta location at The Battery and gave it an 8.1, so the Nashville one is on my list to compare.

Best For: Tex-Mex, margaritas, sit-down meals

What Is My Favorite Mexican Restaurant in Nashville?

Right now it's a tie. Chilangos Tacos and The Chile Burrito Co. both have an 8.7 Sam Score, one for tacos and one for burritos, and both are a short walk from Broadway. Ladybird Taco follows at 7.6.

That ranking isn't permanent. I'm continuing to visit Mexican restaurants across Nashville, and every time I review another one, it gets added here based on my actual experience.

Traditional Mexican Food Worth Trying

I'm not going to crown anything the "most authentic" Mexican food in Nashville. Mexican cooking is regional, and what's traditional in Jalisco isn't the same as what's traditional somewhere else. What's more useful is knowing what a restaurant focuses on.

El Jaliciense cooks home-style dishes from Jalisco, Maiz de la Vida is built around fresh masa, and the taquerias along Nolensville Pike in South Nashville are some of the best places in the city to explore street tacos, markets and regional dishes.

What Should You Order at a Mexican Restaurant?

If you're trying somewhere new, these are the dishes I typically look for:

And when a restaurant is known for something specific, that's usually what I'm ordering for the review.

Where to Find Mexican Food in Nashville

Don't limit your search to downtown. Two of my highest rated spots are near Broadway, but some of Nashville's most interesting Mexican food is spread across the city:

What is a Sam Score?

The Sam Score is my overall restaurant rating. Restaurants can't pay for a Sam Score, and sponsored content doesn't influence ratings. I pay for my independent review experiences so the score reflects what I actually thought about the food and experience.

The Sam Score

Every restaurant I personally review receives an overall Sam Score out of 10.

My goal isn't to tell you that every restaurant is amazing. It's to help you decide what's actually worth your time and money.

Restaurants cannot purchase a higher rating or pay to be placed at the top of my rankings. UGC and sponsored brand content are completely separate from my independent restaurant reviews.
