Looking for the best sushi in Nashville? Whether you want a classic roll, fresh nigiri, loaded specialty rolls or a proper sit-down dinner, there's more here than the city's hot chicken reputation suggests.
The hard part isn't finding somewhere that serves sushi. It's working out which places are actually worth the money.
I'm visiting Nashville's sushi restaurants and giving each one a Sam Score out of 10 based on my own experience. I pay for my own meals, and no restaurant can pay for a better rating. This guide keeps growing as I get to more of them.

โญ Maru WeHo
Neighborhood: Wedgewood-Houston
Sam Score: 9.2/10
Best For: A sit-down sushi dinner or date night
Price: $$
Maru is a Nashville sushi group with several locations, and this one is in Wedgewood-Houston just south of downtown: a sleek, industrial-style room with a full sushi bar, specialty rolls and a cocktail menu.
I got the Pink Lady, Tiger and Dynamite rolls. Service was fast, there's free and paid parking nearby, and the bar makes it work for a date night or a business lunch. It's my highest rated sushi spot in the city. Read Sam's full review โ

โญ Horu Sushi Kitchen
Neighborhood: Assembly Food Hall (Fifth + Broadway)
Sam Score: 8.3/10
Best For: Quick sushi downtown, with a group or with kids
Price: $$
Horu is a sushi counter inside Assembly Food Hall at Fifth + Broadway, under a blue neon sign, with rolls made to order and handed over on a tray.
I got the Tempura Predators Roll, the Crunchy Spicy Tuna Roll and the Seafood Volcano Roll. Seating is the food hall's own so there's plenty of it, which makes it easy with a group or with kids. It does get busy, and downtown parking is paid. Read Sam's full review โ

More Nashville Sushi on My Watchlist
There's plenty of Nashville sushi I haven't got to yet, from neighborhood spots to more upscale Japanese dining. I'd rather leave this section short than pad it with places I haven't eaten at, so it fills in as I go.

What Makes a Great Sushi Restaurant?
Sushi is one of the harder things to compare, because restaurants are chasing different experiences. Some are built around traditional nigiri and sashimi, others around creative specialty rolls and sauces.
- ๐ Freshness and quality: the taste and texture of the fish, and whether everything feels carefully prepared.
- ๐ Flavor: a roll should taste as good as it looks, with the toppings complementing the fish instead of burying it.
- ๐ฐ Portion size and value: sushi adds up fast, so the quality and quantity have to justify the bill.
- ๐ Atmosphere and service: a quick lunch and a date night are different jobs, and the room matters.
- ๐ Would I order it again: the one that counts. Would I spend my own money to go back?
Is Nashville a Good City for Sushi?
Nashville is better known for hot chicken, barbecue and Southern food, but the restaurant scene is wider than that. Sushi here runs from casual neighborhood spots and food hall counters to higher-end Japanese dining.
Again, the challenge isn't finding sushi. It's working out which places deliver for the price, which is what these rankings are for.
